Job Description
The Principal FPGA Engineer will plan and conduct work requiring extensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles across broad areas of assignment and related fields. This role leads the definition, development, review, and maintenance of FPGA architectures and code, including design verification and validation activities. The position also reviews and develops HDL code, ensures design quality, and supports design reuse and long-term maintainability.
This individual will work closely with hardware and software engineering teams to define interfaces, integrate FPGA designs into system architectures, and support system-level debugging and product releases. The role requires the application of advanced techniques and the extension of theories, concepts, and practices within the specialty and related disciplines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as an individual contributor, core team member, or technical lead for a specific project or product line, with responsibility for FPGA-related design and implementation activities.
- Be accountable for the completion of assigned deliverables, including FPGA design, verification, integration, and release, in accordance with approved schedules.
- Independently plan, perform, and prioritize complex tasks related to FPGA architecture, coding, verification, and system integration in alignment with corporate goals.
- Analyze and interpret data, identify trends, and determine next steps, including trade-off analysis when required.
- Lead, design, develop, and review FPGA architectures and HDL code; support the development of test methods, specifications, technical apparatus, software, and processes for complex components and system functions as needed.
- Collaborate closely with hardware and software engineering teams to define interfaces, support FPGA integration, troubleshoot system-level issues, and support product releases.
- Evaluate complex designs or processes with respect to acceptability, suitability, and cost, and recommend preferred design options.
- Identify product defects, recognize outliers in results, and clearly document defects and their impact.
- Communicate technical information effectively to a multidisciplinary team through documentation, presentations, and technical summaries.
- Provide technical leadership without direct authority and offer guidance and mentoring to engineers and technicians on assigned projects.
- Support or lead CAPA or complaint investigations as needed.
- Develop predictable schedules while understanding cross-functional dependencies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or a related field.
- Twelve years of product development or relevant experience required.
- Eight to ten years of product development or relevant experience may be considered for candidates with advanced degrees.
- For internal candidate promotion, demonstrated proficiency in meeting all competencies of the current level and an acceptable performance history may be used in lieu of experience.
- In vitro medical device experience is highly desired.
- Strong capability in statistical analysis, root cause analysis, creative problem solving, and critical thinking when required by the function.
- Technically adept and confident.
- Demonstrated leadership strengths, including accountability, decision making, influence, and communication.
- Mentoring experience preferred.
