Job Title: Radar Engineer
Location: Lexington, MA
Duration: 36 Months and 40 hours per week

Our client’s Surveillance Systems Group conducts research on integrated sensing and decision support architectures for Air Traffic Control. The group is currently performing research and development into the impact of new generations of secondary surveillance systems on the National Airspace System (NAS), with two major approaches. In the initial approach, the Project Team is analyzing system architecture, implementation, and operational use concepts to assess the theoretical impacts of proposed new systems on the NAS. The results of this research are analyses used by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to determine the effects that the proposed new systems would have on the performance of already-deployed NAS systems. The group subsequently carries out testing, data collection and analysis of the new surveillance systems to verify the expected impacts.
In addition, the Group is developing a spectrum monitoring testbed that will support development and validation of NAS environment simulations. The testbed samples the RF environment at the frequencies used by beacon surveillance radars and emulates planned or potential RF monitoring systems. The emulated RF monitoring results will assist in determining how monitoring data can be used in validating and maintaining the environment simulations, which, in turn, will be used to examine the impact on NAS surveillance performance of changes in the set of surveillance systems in use in the NAS.
A radar engineer is needed to participate in development of airborne safety systems and related simulation systems. The specific focus of this position is analysis and testing of secondary surveillance systems, and development of the monitoring testbed.
Position Scope/Job Functions
Participate in a team focused on NAS environment analysis, monitoring and modeling. Assignments will include analysis of radar design and implementation, design and execution of radar tests and analysis of test results, and design and testing of data processing algorithms.
Skills, Experience and knowledge in the following areas are required:
. Secondary (beacon) radar system engineering and digital signal processing;
. Surveillance data processing and target tracking;
. Specifying and developing real-time surveillance data processing algorithms and visualization tools;
. Developing Matlab scripts for data analysis and visualization;
. Ability to work effectively in a team environment; and
. Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and concisely in written and spoken forms.
A highly successful candidate will have the following special skills:
. Familiarity with air traffic surveillance and control;
. Experience with object-oriented design and coding using programming languages such as C/C++ and java;
. Ability to develop, debug and execute software in Windows and Linux environments; and
. Experience with source code management using with revision control systems such as SVN or Git.
Education/Professional Certifications/Substituting Off-Set
MS in electrical engineering or physics with a minimum of 3 years directly related experience; or BS in electrical engineering or physics with a minimum of five years of directly related experience.
