Job Description:
Our client is looking for an ECAD Librarian to work with design and component engineers to establish proper structure and design of electrical schematic symbols, component footprints, 3D component models, maintain the current library of symbols, footprints and models, and to help approve new symbols being requested by design engineers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (but not limited to):

  • Develop and maintain component library data for use in electrical schematic and PWB layout software.
  • Possess thorough knowledge of industry standard practices for schematic drafting, PWB layout, and PWB assembly. 
  • Work independently to stay current on trends and best practices and educate other designers on these standards as needed.
  • Identify component issues and bring these issues to the attention of senior technical personnel with proposed solutions.  
  • Recommend appropriate alternate and substitute components for an application.
  • Identify and define functional and performance parameters of electrical components.
  • Define the key parameters of a component by referencing a component datasheet.
  • Work proficiently with the schematic, layout, component database, and drafting tools used within the group. 
  • Assist designers in the proper use of tools for the proper applications.
  • Update or modify basic library configurations of database architectures.
  • Follow processes and work instructions and adapt to new processes and work instructions quickly. 
  • Regularly suggest improvements to existing work instructions and processes and/or designs new processes to improve work efficiency.
  • Effectively communicates status and issues to management and members of a design team in oral or written form as requested for the project.
  • Update component part numbering systems and bill-of-materials management as well as the link between the parts library, procurement, and manufacturing.

Qualifications:

  • Two- or four-year graduate of a technical school in an applicable discipline or demonstrated equivalent knowledge or skills with a minimum of 10 years of experience as a Parts Librarian plus supplemental experience in PWB design, technical drafting, or database management.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience with Mentor Graphics Expedition VX, DxDesigner, Mentor Graphics Library Manager’s symbol and cell editors, and AutoCAD. 
  • Demonstrated ability to execute and lead project tasks. 
  • Exceptional written and oral communications skills, attention to detail, and demonstrated ability to independently lead and drive a project to completion.
  • Familiarity with industry standards; IPC-7351, JEDEC-JP95, and MIL-STD-1835.
  • Ability to work with moderate to minimal oversight from senior technical personnel.
  • Ability to identify and resolve component issues. 
  • Understanding of basic functional and performance parameters of electrical components and how to properly identify and define those parameters by referencing component datasheets. 
  • Effectively communicate status and issues to management and design team members in oral or written form as requested for the project.
  • Experience with Mentor Graphics EDM Library is a plus (Solidworks v2017 and relational database experience is strongly preferred).
