Digital Prospectors Provides 50 Thanksgiving Meals Through Families in Transition
It’s easy to forget that Thanksgiving is about more than turkey, naps, football and parades. As a way to acknowledge and express gratitude for our good fortune, DPC is donating food to help feed 50 New Hampshire families this Thanksgiving through one of our favorite non-profits, Families in Transition.
Families in Transition works year round to provide resources, social services and affordable housing options to New Hampshire individuals and families who currently are, or are at risk of becoming, homeless.
“Homelessness in New Hampshire is very real,” said DPC President Jessica Catino. “Through the hard work of Families in Transition, we’re grateful for the opportunity to help make Thanksgiving a little more special for our neighbors in need.”
Next week, DPC will be stopping by the Families in Transition headquarters in Manchester to drop off all the fixin’s for a proper Thanksgiving feast, including turkeys, stuffing, gravy, veggies, pies and more.
“We have over 500 people in our program, and most of them can’t afford a turkey dinner and all the dressings, so it’s wonderful to be able to distribute these donations to our families who need them most,” said Sophia Japhet, AmeriCorps VISTA at Families in Transition. “We’ll start with those in our emergency programs first, and work our way through our families from there.”
“The holiday season can sometimes be a very difficult time for our families,” said Pamela Punsky, FIT’s donor relations manager. “Our staff works toward giving all of our families access to resources they need to have a special holiday. Thanks to special community partners like DPC we are able to ensure our families have a memorable holiday season.”
UPDATE:
We would also like to thank the Market Basket at 460 Elm Street in Manchester, who donated $316 towards the turkeys and spent significant time boxing up all the food and helping load our vehicles.
