A recent analysis from Executives Online looked at the best time of the year to look for work. Their findings offer a few insights on what months to look for work – and what months to keep your searching to a minimum.
January typically sees a copious amount of new job listings as companies start off the new year. At the same time, competition for these positions is higher, since candidates typically wait until this time to begin their searches. Opportunities remain plentiful until March, and then pick up again in May and June; with another boost in October and November.
Somewhat obviously, December sees the fewest new job listings as organizations prepare for the end of the year as well as the holiday season. Still, competition for any of these positions tends to be light, so don’t feel shy about applying for any job opening that catches your eye.

What About the Best Day of the Week?
Another study looking at job search and hiring patterns offers a few insights on the best day of the week for new opportunities. They found the majority of job openings are posted at the beginning of the week, especially Tuesday, the day also seeing the most offers.
Understanding this information is essential for candidates. Applying soon after a position is first posted gives you the best chance of being selected for an interview. The study notes that 60 percent of candidates apply within the first week after the opening is made public.
But what’s the best time of the day to apply for a job? Since this study also noted companies post the most open positions at 11AM, applying anywhere from 11AM to 12:30PM – on Tuesday – gives you the best chance at success.
