IT & Engineering Jobs in High Demand: UK Hiring Trends Reflect Global Growth

We’ve got good news for IT pros and engineers! Data from an August study on UK hiring trends indicates that the need for both temporary and permanent IT candidates is continuing an exponential rise.

IT & Engineering Jobs in High Demand

In fact, the recent data (compiled from the KPMG Report on Jobs and the Recruitment and Employment Confederation) shows that the demand for temporary IT staff is at its highest rate since 1998 – coming in at the fifth most in-demand job in the temp sector!

The study also measured the number of permanent vacancies. Of the nine sectors measured, engineering and IT/computing were among the top three most highly sought after positions for permanent vacancies. That’s the fastest increase in available vacancies for permanent IT/computing positions since 2007!

The most in-demand IT skills (and those in the shortest supply) included: development, business analysis, e-commerce, and knowledge in C++, Java, PHP, and HTML5.

Sought-After Skills = Better Pay

Best of all, with these vacancies comes higher pay for those who can fill them. In August, permanent staff salaries reached their highest rate of inflation in more than five years. Temporary pay rates also saw a marked increase, though not quite reaching the level of permanent IT positions.

And this isn’t just great news for UK job seekers. This growth in the engineering and IT sectors has implications for the global business market as a whole. Individuals who possess the skills identified above are increasingly sought all over the world – and that, of course, includes the United States.

So, do the skill-sets described above match up with your resume? Are you interested in learning more about the temporary and permanent IT vacancies on this side of the pond?
