Our client is looking for a dynamic Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their Hardware Engineering group. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will play a pivotal role in developing the next generation of multi-omic spatial imaging instruments. We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated engineer with a robust background in mechanical design and precision motion control, preferably with experience in life sciences equipment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities (but not limited to):
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of technical solutions for complex motion control projects across multiple domains.
- Engage in all phases of product development from requirements definition to verification and validation testing.
- Design and qualify systems containing precision motion stages to meet stringent performance and reliability requirements.
- Program multi-axis motion controllers for optomechanical and robotic operations synchronized with illumination, image acquisition, and fluidics subsystems.
- Work closely with software engineers and other hardware design engineers to ensure seamless integration of motion control solutions.
- Manage partnerships with motion control vendors for custom-designed products.
- Develop and perform component verification testing and product validation testing.
- Study and test product designs to identify improvements.
- Create product functional and design specifications, perform Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), and support production by troubleshooting process and component issues.
- Document and prepare patent submissions.
- Participate in project planning and scheduling.
- Shepherd projects through the design control process and assist New Product Introduction personnel with initial builds.
- PhD or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a relevant field.
- 10+ years in life science instrumentation, semiconductor equipment, and/or automation and robotics, with a proven track record of bringing new products from concept to manufacturing.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred), with experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
- Experience programming and tuning motion controllers for synchronous motion trajectories.
- Design experience with sub-micron positioning stages and Z-stages for optical focus.
- Familiarity with electrical assemblies, sensors, and various manufacturing techniques.
- Strong knowledge of analysis tools (i.e., Python or MATLAB).
- Excellent communication and documentation skills, a hands-on approach, and the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Prior project management experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with machining, casting, sheet metal, and high-volume injection molding is a plus.
- Experience generating mechanical drawings and knowledge of electronic document control systems is preferred.
- 3+ years of programming experience in Java, C++, Python, or related languages is highly desirable.
