In this role, you’ll be a key technical resource responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining Linux-based infrastructure that supports both software development and operational needs. This position blends hands-on Linux system administration with modern DevOps practices—requiring not only technical expertise, but also strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Architect, implement, and maintain Linux infrastructure supporting software development and deployment.
- Enhance and manage tools for system provisioning, configuration management, compliance, and performance monitoring.
- Support automation of build/test processes, package distribution, and cloud processing environments.
- Collaborate closely with engineering staff to understand development workflows and propose streamlined infrastructure solutions.
- Troubleshoot Linux-based desktop and server systems.
- Provide technical support for infrastructure services such as NFS, DHCP, DNS, Apache, MySQL, Squid, and mediaWiki.
- Contribute to AWS GovCloud infrastructure, including enhancements and integration using IaC tools such as Terraform, Kubernetes, or Packer.
- Participate in wider division-level IT initiatives and system administration efforts as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience with Linux system administration and DevOps practices in a development or research environment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams.
- Proficiency with git, GitHub, and other source code management tools.
- Scripting experience in Python, bash, and CMake.
- Familiarity with virtualization and container platforms (i.e., VMs, Docker, and Kubernetes).
- Experience with AWS GovCloud and infrastructure as code (i.e., Terraform, Kubernetes, or Packer).
- Experience integrating Linux in environments where Microsoft Windows is the dominant client OS.
- Ability to troubleshoot and support services such as Apache, MySQL, NFS, DNS, DHCP, mediaWiki, and Squid.
- Hands-on experience with automated configuration tools, preferably Ansible.
- Experience with Debian/Ubuntu distributions on both desktop and server platforms is preferred.
- Proven ability to maintain and extend Linux infrastructure in support of advanced engineering applications is highly preferred.
- Due to the nature of the work, an Interim clearance is required, however the candidate will need to obtain a Secret clearance (active Secret clearance is a plus).
