Our client is seeking a skilled Computer Aided Design (CAD) Designer to support the development of complex, mission-critical hardware. This is an excellent opportunity to work alongside a multidisciplinary engineering team, contributing to innovative solutions. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with mechanical CAD tools and thrive in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed layouts, assembly drawings, and design documentation using advanced CAD tools (i.e., SolidWorks, Siemens NX, CATIA, ProEngineer).
- Develop production-ready drawings for mechanical and opto-mechanical systems, ensuring manufacturability and accuracy.
- Create and revise detailed and assembly-level drawings, integrating changes and maintaining design records.
- Translate conceptual sketches and engineering input into final CAD models and drawings.
- Maintain organized file systems and version control for all production drawings and associated documentation.
- Review and interpret engineering blueprints, specifications, and design inputs to ensure alignment with technical and performance goals.
- Support updates to drafting and engineering standards as needed.
- Collaborate with engineers to support the design of components for optical assemblies, mechanical enclosures, and precision mechanisms across various platforms.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related technical field.
- 5–8+ years of experience in mechanical design and drafting using CAD software (SolidWorks or equivalent).
- Strong knowledge of mechanical assemblies, design tolerances, and fabrication techniques (i.e., machining, sheet metal).
- Experience working with complex mechanical and opto-mechanical components, including alignment and mounting techniques.
- Familiarity with thermal and structural analysis principles and their application in design.
- Ability to read, interpret, and produce engineering documentation and drawings to industry standards.
- Experience supporting multi-disciplinary teams and cross-functional design efforts.
- Excellent attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills.
- Experience in designing components for optical systems, especially EO/IR systems are preferred.
- Familiarity with military standards and specifications is a plus.
- Hands-on experience with structural and thermal analysis tools or coordination with analysts is a plus.
- Exposure to system performance testing and validation processes is preferred.
- Due to the nature of the work, an Interim clearance is required, however the candidate will need to obtain a Secret clearance (active Secret clearance is a plus).
