Location: Greater Boston, MA (Onsite)
Length: 6+ months
Job Description:
Our client is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented NPI Mechanical Technical Specialist to support the development and launch of next-generation electromechanical systems. In this role, you will play a key part in bridging the gap between engineering and manufacturing — working on complex actuator systems, high-performance motors, and robotic structures through the New Product Introduction (NPI) lifecycle. If you're a hands-on builder with deep mechanical expertise and a passion for bringing advanced technology to life, this is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a fast-paced, collaborative team shaping the future of robotics.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (but not limited to):
- Assemble, test, and troubleshoot complex electromechanical systems, including motors, actuators, gearboxes, and structural assemblies.
- Interpret and execute engineering drawings, schematics, and build instructions with a high level of precision.
- Participate in prototype builds and iterative design improvements of advanced robotic subsystems.
- Operate CNC and manual machines, and support fabrication tasks such as bending, potting, and laser etching.
- Utilize and improve mechanical fixtures to ensure consistency and accuracy in assembly processes.
- Maintain and calibrate tools, equipment, and workstations to ensure safety and operational readiness.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to document repeatable assembly processes and develop specialized tools and fixtures.
- Conduct root-cause analysis on mechanical failures and recommend corrective actions to improve system reliability.
- Manage parts, inventory, and build documentation using PLM and MRP systems.
- Provide proactive feedback to streamline assembly operations and improve product quality.
- 5–7 years of hands-on experience in mechanical assembly or prototyping within robotics, aerospace, motorsports, or similar high-performance sectors.
- Strong knowledge of electromechanical systems including motors, actuators, precision gears, and bearings.
- Skilled in using hand tools, measurement instruments, and interpreting complex mechanical drawings.
- Experience troubleshooting mechanical systems and executing basic test procedures.
- Comfortable working with CNC machines and CAD-based fixture designs (i.e., SolidWorks, CATIA).
- Demonstrated success in both independent and team-based engineering environments.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic setting.
- Experience with advanced robotic assembly techniques, including cable routing, soldering, crimping, and over-molding is preferred.
- Hands-on background in fabrication processes such as machining, welding, or CNC maintenance and repair is a plus.
- Familiarity with legged or mobile robotic systems and high-reliability mechanical repair roles (i.e., A&P mechanic work) is preferred.
- Proficiency in CAD design for fixtures, tooling, or mechanical components (SolidWorks or CATIA preferred) is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership in technical teams, NPI initiatives, or scaling R&D prototypes into production-ready systems is advantageous.
