Job Description:
Our client is seeking an experienced Linux Systems Administrator to support a critical server migration and upgrade initiative. This role will be responsible for transitioning a RHEL 7 data intake server to RHEL 8/9 while ensuring operational continuity, data integrity, and minimal disruption to business processes. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in Linux systems administration, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with IT teams and end users.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (but not limited to):
- Lead the migration/upgrade of a RHEL 7 data intake server to RHEL 8/9.
- Communicate and coordinate with IT staff and end-user personnel throughout the project lifecycle.
- Investigate and document all current server functions to ensure nothing is lost in transition.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive testing and validation procedure to safeguard data and system functionality.
- Design and execute a detailed migration/upgrade plan with a focus on preventing data loss, given the regular transfer of files from remote systems.
- Perform validation testing post-migration to confirm successful upgrade and continuity of operations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues as they arise during the migration and upgrade process.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Experience leading server migrations or upgrades in enterprise environments.
- 10+ years of experience as a Linux Systems Administrator.
- Strong expertise with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7 and newer.
- Proficiency in shell scripting and cron.
- Hands-on experience with SSH, including SFTP, tunneling, and public/private key management.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
