Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Linux Systems Administrator to join their dynamic and fast-moving team. This position will focus on Linux administration and Windows platforms. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Linux systems, a deep understanding of IT infrastructure, and expertise in system configuration, management, and troubleshooting. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our IT systems infrastructure, including cloud and on-premise environments, and working closely with other teams to address complex technical issues. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage, administer, and support all IT systems infrastructure, primarily in a Linux environment with secondary support for Windows-based systems.
  • Perform ongoing system maintenance including installation, updates, troubleshooting, and optimizing servers and researcher workstations.
  • Address security vulnerabilities and ensure compliance with security protocols on secure and unclassified systems, remediating Category 1, 2, and 3 issues in a timely manner.
  • Administer and support virtualization platforms such as VMware, and work with automation tools like Ansible and Shell scripting to improve system performance and reliability.
  • Plan, execute, and verify data redundancy and system recovery procedures.
  • Continuously monitor and tune systems to ensure they meet the required performance, availability, and serviceability standards.
  • Serve as a point of escalation for unresolved technical incidents, providing expert-level support and troubleshooting assistance to other teams.
  • Evaluate vendor products and services, establish monitoring and tracking processes, and ensure that systems are configured properly for backup and recovery.
  • Create and maintain detailed system documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), system configurations, and backup plans.
  • Recognize and troubleshoot issues affecting development machines across multiple operating systems (Linux, Windows, etc.).
  • Participate in additional responsibilities related to the IT infrastructure, systems, and operational requirements.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline with 5 years of hands-on Linux administration experience, with in-depth expertise in RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), VMware, and associated technologies.
  • Strong experience in managing Linux-based systems (RHEL), as well as some experience with Windows, and VMware virtual environments (experience working with Dell hardware is a plus).
  • Proficiency in automation and scripting languages such as Ansible, Shell scripting, PowerShell, or Bash.
  • Familiarity with networking protocols (i.e., TCP/IP, DNS, NTP, SSH, FTP, and HTTP/S) and applications.
  • Experience with centralized authentication systems (i.e., SSSD, IDM, and Active Directory) and managing Sudo administration.
  • Ability to configure, install, maintain, and troubleshoot physical and virtual servers and researcher workstations.
  • Skilled in monitoring and tuning system performance and resources, including data redundancy, system recovery, and backup procedures.
  • Experience creating technical documentation and standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively in a small, fast-moving team environment, coordinating with internal teams and vendors.
  • Experience managing classified IT systems (i.e., STIGs, SCAPS, and RMF) is preferred.
  • Experience with virtualization platforms (i.e., VMware vSphere, Citrix XenDesktop/Server, Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud, etc.) is a plus.
  • Network administration experience, including managing data centers, switches, routers, and firewalls is advantageous.
  • Experience in maintaining directory services (i.e., Microsoft Active Directory, and LDAP) is a plus.
  • Mac experience is a plus.
  • Certifications in Red Hat, VMware, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), CompTIA Security+, or Linux Professional Institute Certification.
  • Due to the nature of the work, an Interim clearance is required, however an active Secret clearance is highly preferred.
