Job Description:
We are seeking a hands-on Electromechanical Assembly Technician to support the build and integration of custom laboratory automation systems and workstations. This role is focused on assembling and integrating custom-designed automation platforms that combine off-the-shelf laboratory instruments with internally designed mechanical and electrical systems.
The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical assembly and AC/DC wiring experience, enjoy working in a highly hands-on environment, and be comfortable solving problems independently when documentation is limited or evolving. This is not a repetitive assembly-line role — it is a “build and figure it out” environment requiring critical thinking, adaptability, and strong troubleshooting skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assemble electromechanical systems, subassemblies, wiring harnesses, and control panels from mechanical drawings and electrical schematics
- Perform AC/DC point-to-point wiring and cable routing for sensors, I/O devices, and integrated subsystems
- Install and connect sensors including proximity, temperature, and motion devices
- Assemble mechanical frames, tables, mounts, and structural subassemblies using engineering drawings
- Perform mechanical and electrical integration of laboratory instruments into custom automation platforms
- Assemble and pressure-test pneumatic components and subsystems as needed
- Utilize multimeters, crimpers, soldering irons, and standard hand tools safely and effectively
- Read and interpret schematics and drawings with limited step-by-step documentation
- Troubleshoot assembly and integration issues during system builds
- Document build changes, discrepancies, and as-built updates during assembly activities
- Collaborate closely with design and automation engineers while independently executing assigned build work
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in electromechanical assembly, automation equipment, lab systems, or related technical environments
- Strong AC/DC wiring and point-to-point wiring experience
- Ability to read and work from electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
- Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on assembly experience using standard hand and power tools
- Experience integrating sensors, wiring, and subsystems into larger assemblies
- Familiarity with pneumatic systems and components preferred, but advanced expertise is not required
- Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision
- Strong troubleshooting and critical-thinking skills in environments with limited or evolving documentation
- Ability to adapt and solve build ambiguities in real time
- Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to quality workmanship
Preferred Backgrounds:
- Automation equipment assembly
- Custom machine or prototype builds
- Laboratory automation systems
- Automotive or electromechanical technician backgrounds
- Industrial equipment integration
Education & Certifications:
- Associate degree in Electromechanical Technology or related technical field preferred, or equivalent hands-on experience
- Certifications related to electrical systems, automation, or pneumatics are a plus
